Year 1 - Holly Class
Mrs Moffatt and Miss Morson
When children move into Year 1, they join Holly Class.
This is where Key Stage One of the National Curriculum begins. Learning becomes more structured with daily English and Maths lessons each morning and topic themed learning each afternoon in a range of subjects including Science, History, Geography, Art, Music, Computing, RE and PE.
On a Monday and Tuesday you will find Sarah Moffatt at the helm of the class, and then from Wednesdays to the end of the week, Rowan Morson is in charge. They collaborate closely and share responsibility for our year one class.
Learning is still as active as possible and is usually delivered in small groups. In Year 1 we love to see our pupil’s gaining more confidence in their own abilities, becoming more independent as the year progresses. We also carefully nurture their personal and social development as they begin to navigate relationships, teaching them to be respectful and compassionate friends and classmates.
Mrs Sarah Moffat
My name is Mrs Moffat and I am the teacher in Holly Class on a Monday and Tuesday. I have been working at Overton for 6 years and I am so proud be part of the Overton family. Although I am currently based in Holly Class, I have lots of experience teaching in both Key Stage 1 and 2 and enjoy teaching children of all ages.As well as teaching Holly Class, I am also the SENDco, and I am passionate about providing the best support for our pupils with SEND. I really enjoy making a difference to the lives of our pupils and their families.
In my spare time, I enjoy going to the gym and working on my strength and fitness, as well as spending time with my family and three cats.
Miss Rowan Morson
I have been teaching since 2011. During that time, I have taught across most primary year groups but have spent the majority of time teaching Year 1. I have worked at schools in other areas of Lancashire as well as schools nearer to home. I have been at Overton St Helen’s Primary for 6 years and it definitely feels like home now!I am the subject leader for Art. I have a background in art and design and have always loved being creative and helping children to learn and develop through their own creativity. I have implemented an Art curriculum at Overton St Helen’s that allows children to be individuals, expressing themselves through art as well as teaching them key knowledge and skills within the practice of art and design.
