Head Teacher

I became head teacher of our lovely school in September 2016. Before moving into Headship, I taught across all years of primary school but primarily in the Early Years. Being a headteacher is a very privileged position as it allows me to have relationships with all our pupils and their families too.
I am extremely proud of the learning community we have built at Overton St Helen’s. I strongly believe that primary school should be a place where children feel happy, safe and confident to face challenges and learn new things, knowing that their efforts will be celebrated.
When I am not at school you can usually find me walking along the shores of our beautiful Morecambe Bay or in the Lakeland hills with my crazy spaniel, Florence!

Deputy Head

I became the Deputy Headteacher at Overton St. Helen’s in September 2024. I have been part of the Overton St. Helen’s family since September 2015 when I joined the school as the KS1 leader and taught Reception in Maple Class. I then moved to Elm Class and taught our Year 2 class before moving to Oak Class in September2024 to teach our Year 5/6 class. My experience across school means that I know how important it is for the children to have a firm foundation developed by their early years’ experiences and the strong relationships we build between home and school. Seeing how the children have flourished by the end of their primary school journey is a real privilege too, and I am very excited to be continuing as Oak Class teacher.

My teaching experience isn’t limited to Overton St. Helen’s. I started my career over in the North East of England and taught for a year in Gateshead, Newcastle before moving to teach at a city school in Preston for over 12 years. During this time, we lived in the Morecambe Bay area and I was keen to teach closer to home, especially after having my two daughters.

Within school, I have been responsible for leading and developing areas of the curriculum including English, History and Geography. I am really passionate that the children in our care should be proud of the area in which we live and I work hard to develop links with local experts to enhance our curriculum. I have worked with colleagues from local schools to develop the Morecambe Bay Curriculum and I am also very pleased that Overton St. Helen’s staff continue to work hard to form links with Lancaster University to ensure the best provision for our pupils.

Outside of school I wear many hats; including being a taxi driver, chef, cheerleader (for the many sports my girls participate in), volunteer and gardener (just the usual mum jobs). When I do get a few minutes to myself I love to go for a walk along the shore or to read a good book sitting in my garden.

Teacher

I began teaching twenty years ago and since that time I have worked in several schools across England in all primary years from Reception to Year Six. I started teaching at Overton at the end of March 2023 when I took up the role of a part time PPA teacher in Elm, Beech and Oak Classes. In September 2023 I began teaching in Beech Class full time working with Year 4 and 5 children. This is a role that I very much enjoy because the curriculum is interesting and the mix in ages gives a wonderful class dynamic, it makes the job very rewarding. Overton is a wonderful school to work in and I feel very privileged to be a member of such a lovely school community.

In addition to being a class teacher I am also the subject leader for History and Geography, and these are subjects I have a huge passion for (they were the subjects I studied at university). Being able to share my passion for these subjects across the school is fantastic and I hope that I enthuse all the children to love these subjects as much as I do.

When I am not at school I love spending time with my family, walking my two dogs Buddy and Teddy and I can always be found at the football supporting my local team Morecambe FC.

I am originally from Wigan, moving up to Lancaster at the turn of the millennium to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Education from Cumbria University. I have worked at Overton St. Helen’s for over seventeen years.

I have a true passion for science, technology, and mathematics within primary school. Helping each child progress in computer programming and as young mathematicians. I have taught in both Key Stage One and Key Stage Two, and I currently am the subject leader for maths, computing, music and religious education.

Personally, I have been married for close to 20 wonderful years and I have two fantastic children - I am highly proud of them both. My 17 year-old is very knowledgeable about the past and loves gaming, while my 15 year old is very creative and loves the dramatic arts. I also enjoy reading, gaming, cycling, spending time at church and the odd roller coaster ride.

I look forward to working together with you as partners in your child’s growth and development.

Teacher

I started working at Overton St Helen’s in September 2012. After teaching in a large city school in Sunderland for five years prior, I was delighted to get the opportunity to move back to the North West, near where I completed my teacher training in Ambleside. I fell in love with the area and with the school, so I have never looked back!

I began as class teacher in Willow Class before moving into a PPA role and out again! This suited the needs of my own young family as I worked part time. Since then I have taught in both Key Stages 1 and 2, some time in each class at some point! Currently I teach our Year 2’s in Elm Class using my experience and knowledge of how the children have started their journey lower down school, but also knowing what they need to do next as they progress through school.

I am subject lead for English and PE across school. I have a passion for helping children to unlock language skills in both reading and writing to enable them to express themselves and enjoy literature. Alongside this, I also believe that providing the children with access to high quality physical education is imperative. That’s why you will often see me in PE kit, teaching a lesson, supporting others or taking one of our fabulous sports teams to a competition!

Outside of school I love to spend time with my own two children. Most weekends I am watching my daughter in a gymnastic event or supporting my son in either football or tennis. As a family we often go on adventures, walks and bike rides in the Lake District.

My name is Mrs Moffat and I am the teacher in Holly Class on a Monday and Tuesday. I have been working at Overton for 6 years and I am so proud be part of the Overton family. Although I am currently based in Holly Class, I have lots of experience teaching in both Key Stage 1 and 2 and enjoy teaching children of all ages.

As well as teaching Holly Class, I am also the SENDco, and I am passionate about providing the best support for our pupils with SEND. I really enjoy making a difference to the lives of our pupils and their families.

In my spare time, I enjoy going to the gym and working on my strength and fitness, as well as spending time with my family and three cats.

I have been teaching since 2011. During that time, I have taught across most primary year groups but have spent the majority of time teaching Year 1. I have worked at schools in other areas of Lancashire as well as schools nearer to home. I have been at Overton St Helen’s Primary for 6 years and it definitely feels like home now!

I am the subject leader for Art. I have a background in art and design and have always loved being creative and helping children to learn and develop through their own creativity. I have implemented an Art curriculum at Overton St Helen’s that allows children to be individuals, expressing themselves through art as well as teaching them key knowledge and skills within the practice of art and design.

Outside of school, I enjoy going for walks and runs in the countryside, paddle boarding in the lakes and spending time with my family and friends.

Teacher

I have been teaching at Overton St Helen’s School since September 2013. During my teaching career I have taught across all primary year groups but primarily across Key Stage 1 and Early Years. My passion lies in Early Years education. I believe in the importance of providing an inspiring, supportive, child led learning environment along with quality adult interactions that allow all children to move forward in their learning.

I am also the subject leader for Science and PSHE. I have developed our science curriculum to reflect and encourage the principles of the Morecambe Bay Curriculum, with a particular focus on outdoor learning and nurturing connections to the natural world and the place where we live. I understand the importance of teaching and promoting good mental health and well-being as well as encouraging healthy relationships and healthy lifestyles. Therefore, I regularly review and develop our PSHE curriculum to reflect the needs of all our children.

When I am not in school, I enjoy spending time outdoors, whether it is walking with my dog Rosie or reading a good book in my garden!
