Sport

Here at Overton St Helen’s, we aim to provide our children with a range of opportunities and experiences. One way that we achieve this, is by offering a wide variety of sports clubs and competitions that compliment our PE Curriculum.

PE lessons are planned and delivered in order to enable our children to become confident with their skills, and attitude towards physical activity. By focusing on basic skills in EYFS and KS1, we aim to introduce the children to more sports specific games in KS2.

This often leads into the opportunity to represent Overton St Helen’s at inter school competitions in the local area. However, participation and enjoyment remain as our main ambition.

To keep up with some of the events, competitions and lessons that the children take part in, please regularly check this page.

Tuesday 21st March
Year 5/6 Regional Netball Qualifier
OVERTON ST HELEN’S – Heysham and Morecambe DISTRICT CHAMPIONS!
Our netball team had a fabulous tournament from start to finish. They won every game, including the final. With only three goals conceded, Overton St Helen’s truly deserve their title. They will now go on to represent Heysham and Morecambe at the District Finals in July.

Wednesday 15th March
SSCO Hi 5 Netball
Once again, a big group of our KS2 children were selected to represent Overton at the local schools tournament. There was some very impressive netball on display from both teams. The Overton ‘Osprey’s’ finished in 3rd place at the end of the competition.

Tuesday 28th February
Year 3/4 Key Steps Gymnastics
Our gym team had been trained hard for weeks to learn two different routines and to perfect their vaulting technique. But all of the effort paid off – the team finished in 2nd place overall.

Thursday 23rd February
Year 5/6 Quick sticks Hockey
It was great to take two teams to this event in order to shown off our hockey skills developed from club and PE lessons. Both teams worked hard on a very cold and blustery afternoon, but were unable to make it out of the group stages on this occasion.

Thursday 1st December
Basketball Festival
This was a fast paced and high-energy event with some time for coaching and a fun competition.

Thursday 17th November
Year 3/4 Indoor Athletics
It was Lower Key Stage Two’s turn to have a go at Indoor Athletics. The children were fantastic and the overall standings came down to the last race. Due to the impressive skipping of our boys, we finished in 2nd place.

Tuesday 11th November
Year 1/2 Indoor Athletics
For this event, eight of our children went to Heysham High to take parts in lots of different events. The children ran, jumped and threw themselves into third place! Excellent effort guys!

Thursday 29th September
Year 3/4 Football
A group of our boys braved a freezing fixture at this event. Mrs Chesters reports that all of our lads put in a fantastic effort and great attitude.
