Willow Class Newsletter Summer 2026
🌿 Happy Summer Term from Class Willow!
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back. I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable Easter break and that the children are returning to school feeling refreshed and ready for the term ahead. We have a busy and exciting Summer Term planned in Willow Class, with lots of engaging learning across the curriculum and plenty of opportunities for the children to continue developing their knowledge, skills and confidence. We are also looking forward to our forthcoming trip to Brockhole on Windermere, which will be a valuable opportunity to support and enrich our learning beyond the classroom. Thank you, as always, for your continued support — it is always greatly appreciated.
🏊 Brockhole on Windermere
One of the highlights of this term will be our class trip to Brockhole on Windermere on Wednesday 6th May, which links closely to our Geography learning. During the day, the children will take part in a Geography Detectives workshop and complete additional geography activities around the site, giving them the chance to explore the environment and use their fieldwork skills in a real-life setting. This should be a valuable and enjoyable way to support our learning about the Lake District. We will leave school at 9.00am and expect to return at approximately 3.30pm. Children should wear suitable clothing and footwear for outdoor walking and bring a packed lunch, water bottle, coat and small backpack. We are also very grateful to OSFA for helping to support the cost of this visit.
🏃 PE
PE Days: Tuesday and Friday (see above details for swimming)
On these days, children should come to school wearing:
A plain house-coloured t-shirt
Plain shorts
Plain tracksuit bottoms (grey, black, or green preferred in colder weather)
School jumper
Outdoor trainers
👉 Please ensure all items are clearly named.
If you have any questions about PE or swimming, feel free to chat with me.
🌲 Forest School
You will receive a text reminder the night before each session. Children need:
Suitable clothing
A change of footwear
A waterproof jacket (essential)
Waterproof trousers (recommended)
Even on dry days, these help to keep under-layers clean and dry.
📘 Homework Expectations
We encourage a consistent homework routine to support your child’s learning and development. Thank you for supporting your child with these key areas:
📖 Reading
Daily reading is essential for developing English skills, reasoning, and critical thinking.
Children may change their reading books as often as they complete them—even daily.
Please record any reading in your child’s Reading Record and let us know when they finish a book.
✏️ Spellings
The attached spelling lists cover words from Years 1–4.
Children practise these daily at school, and extra practice at home will make a big difference.
🔢 Mathematics
Daily practice of number facts and multiplication tables will greatly support progress. We recommend:
Numbots and Times Table Rock Stars (logins are in Reading Records).
One Minute Maths (free White Rose Maths app for tablets and smartphones).
💡 Tip for Parents: Setting aside just 15 minutes a day for reading, spellings, or maths can make a big impact over time.

💬 Staying in Touch
If you would like to discuss any concerns about your child’s progress, please feel free to speak to us at the end of the school day or make a formal appointment through the school office. If you would like to be more involved in classroom learning, we would be delighted to hear from you. In particular, if you are able to listen to children read on a regular basis, please do get in touch, as this support is always greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Mr D. Wood and Mrs D. West
