Spring Newsletter Beech Class

Wow! What a quick start to the New Year this has been. The children have produced a lot of work in Beech Class and there has been a lot of important learning taking place. With a rich and varied curriculum in Spring Term 2026 the children will experience a range of subjects from Ancient Greece in History to Forces and discoveries in Science. So, with that in mind let me set out what we intend to cover in the 1st term of 2026.

In Maths this term we will again be consolidating the basic principles of addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. I cannot stress enough the importance of the children practising their times table facts (up to 12 x 12) whether they are Year 4 or Year 5 as these facts underpin so much of the work we complete in Maths. This term we will also be studying angles, perimeter, area and money.

In English we will be looking at a range of texts so that we can produce a range of different types of written work. We are reading a book called the 100 Greatest Scientists and writing biographies, we will be looking also at a fiction text called Diary of a Future Billionaire so that we can explore diary writing and persuasive writing. Poetry will also contribute to our English learning this term and we will be looking at how to create poems with different structures.

Homework, you may have noticed has been scaled back a little in this first part of the spring term. This is so that the children can focus purely on spelling and reading at home as these are core skills in Beech Class. After the half term break I will once again introduce some core times table facts so that the children can consolidate their learning and knowledge.

As for the rest of the curriculum I have set out the subjects we will study in Spring Term.
