Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 9
Weekly Round Up
It's great to be back for the start of a new half-term and it was equally great to see all our pupils return, ready to get going again. I hope everyone enjoyed a well-earned break.
This half-term promises to be an exciting one, ending with the usual joy and festivity that December brings us. However we have lots to be getting on with before the festive season hits. Next week, Year 5 and Year 6 will be completing their Bikeability Sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (see dates section below for the exact dates), we have Children in Need coming up in a couple of weeks (our House Captains are planning some fun fundraising for that one) and some tournaments and competitions where groups of pupils will be representing our school. On top of all that, lots of amazing learning, new topics and new texts have already gotten underway!
Next week we will be having a special Remembrance Worship on Tuesday 11th November, when we will mark the occasion by reflecting on those brave people serving in our armed forces, past and present. Poppies are available from the school office if anyone is interested in purchasing some small objects to support the annual Poppy Appeal.
Easy Fundraising
A big thank you from OSFA to those who have now signed up to Easy Fundraising. This is a very easy, no effort way of gathering funds for OSFA, by on line ordering through this site. We have 47 people now signed up and this is already generating hundreds of pounds for us. Even if you sign up and then do nothing, by following the link below, you will earn £2 for OSFA funds.
Follow this link https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/ check it out and many thanks in advance.
Indoor Play Games
We on on the look out to replenish our stock of indoor play games, that keep our pupils busy during wet playtimes. If you have any such games like Jenga, Connect 4, cards, Top Trumps, Dominoes and other similar games that you may be clearing out, please send them our way. We would also welcome any unwanted 50 or 100 piece jigsaws.
Many thanks!
4 Weeks to the Christmas Fair!
Take a minute to let that sink in!
OSFA are now putting together plans for a fabulous Christmas Fair, which will begin the joy and frivolity of the season in school. As a heads up, they will be looking for the usual donations of the following items:
Teddys
Wine
Small tombola prizes
Larger gift items for the Christmas Sleigh
Cakes - on the day!
In order for the fair to be such a successful event, we rely on your generous donations. You may be having a bit of a clear out in preparation for Christmas, so if you find any unwanted pressies from last year, the odd bottle of wine that wasn't opened, or simply a clear out of some old teddys, send them our way. It's never too soon to start donating for the fair (apart from cakes for the cake stall that is!).
Show Success
It was lovely to be able to share and celebrate the success we had at the Overton and District Horticultural Autumn Show, that took place during half-term. We entered examples of some fabulous hand-writing and collage pictures and it was great to see them winning prizes.
I'm also happy and proud to say that our home grown beetroots won a third prize against some amazing competition. It would seem that our newly 'greened-fingers' are getting just a little bit greener!
Well done to all who entered. The next Show will be next summer, so plenty of time to get planning and planting, next year's entries!
Stars of the Week
Well done to Pearl in Maple Class, Harry in Holly, Meadow in Elm, Neave in Willow Class, Theo in Beech and Cara in Oak Class, who were our Stars of the Week for making a great start to the half-term, for an excellent attitude to work, perseverance and great behavior for learning. Well done!
