Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 8(26/27)
Weekly Round Up
We've finally made it to the end of this bumper half-term. I think the school disco yesterday evening used up what was left of our energy levels and we are all now definitely ready for a good rest.
It's been a great final week in school which included a visit on Thursday from the school library service. They visited a few classes to tell some amazing stories; as suspected, the library service were fabulous at bringing stories to life and the pupils really enjoyed their time with them. They also worked with Oak Class to launch the Fabulous Book Awards competition. Oak Class now have six different books by various authors, all competing to become Lancashire's Fabulous Book Award winner of the year. Not just us, but pupils from all across the county will be voting for the winner in the Spring; right now though, Oak Class are just enjoying reading them.
As we finish for half-term, we are eager to seek parent's thoughts on how this term has gone for your child. Today via the text service, we have sent out a link to a short questionnaire; I would be grateful if you took a few minutes to complete it for our information. QR code links are also in the class windows if you missed the text. Thank you.
A Message from our Eco Council
This morning, we heard a presentation from our Eco Council about the pledges they want us as a school to make this year, in order to look after the environment and take action to help protect the planet. They gave us some great and very easy ways we can take action ourselves and challenged us all to have a go. Therefore, we want to challenge all of you at home to do the following:
look after green spaces and never damage plants or trees
turn off the tap whilst you're brushing your teeth to save every drop of water you can
if you are the last one out of a room, save energy by turning off the lights
recycle as much as you can by stopping, thinking and choosing the right bin
be kind to every living creature, big or small - they are very important to our world
try to use your car less - choose an active journey (walking or cycling) whenever you can
reduce your food waste by taking only what you need - fewer left-overs will mean less gets thrown away
if you see litter lying around in the wrong places, if it's safe to do so, pick it up
Let's see if together we can make a difference.
Thanks Eco-Council!
Attendance
Today, each class held their attendance prize draws which meant one lucky member of each class took home a great prize. There were many names in each hat which is fantastic - that reflects the great attendance we have had this half-term. I also handed out certificates to those pupils who have managed to achieve 100% for the whole half-term. Well done to you.
Keep up the good work everyone - the class attendance prize draws begin again after the break.
Half Term Activities
It looks like there are some great half-term activities planned for the break next week at Lancaster Museums. Check out the information below and book on if you are interested.
Stars of the Week
A huge well done to Ivy in Holly Class, Teddy in Elm, George in Willow, Emily B in Beech and Flynn in Oak Class who were our final stars of the week for this half-term, showing hard work, determination and perseverance in all they do in school. Fabulous!
As always at the end of a half-term, Values Awards were given out in worship; Koinonia has been the focus of this half-term, learning and understanding how we 'live well together'. The recipients were as follows:
Mrs Moffatt and Miss Morson's Award: Alba Wellings

Mr Wood's Award: Corey Pemberton
