Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 6
Weekly Round Up
A busy old week this week, full of hard work and study. It's been quiet in terms of visits, visitors and special events, however amazing in terms of the hard work that's been going on in classes, making the week fly by.
As I popped in and out of classrooms I saw a great range of work being produced, from really focused pieces of writing and some very interesting science classification, to creative artwork and comic strip creations. Amazing!
Next week, Oak Class will be heading over to Sunderland Point in order to begin their salt-marsh study. I am looking forward to learning more about the importance of our salt-marshes from them when they return.
Morning Drop-off
Please could I ask that all parents gather on the lower playground in the mornings before school, when waiting for classrooms to open. There is a growing number of parents and pupils now waiting on the top playground. I appreciate the logic in this as it is closer to your children's classroom, however only the lower playground is supervised by a member of staff. Whilst this isn't an issue for our pupils whose parents accompany them into the school grounds, it is an issue for those pupils who are not with their parents - they are waiting on the upper playground with the crowds and consequently are unsupervised.
I would also encourage this, as it gives our older KS2 pupils the chance to walk around to their classrooms independently - a very subtle difference to KS1 but an important developmental milestone nonetheless. This isn't to say that parents are not allowed to walk around with them, especially if they need to catch the class teacher, however we would encourage you to let them go on their own if they can. It's all part of the 'getting older' process.
Many thanks for your co-operation.
Bikeability Sessions for Year 5s and Year 6s
A reminder for all parents of our Year 5s and Year 6s, regarding the Bikeability email that was sent out mid-week. The link on the letter takes you to the consent form that needs to be returned in order to enable children to participate. Go Velo are extremely strict about consent. Please don't forget to complete them and submit them before 20th October for the Bikeability sessions in November.
200 Club Raffle
A reminder that slips are now available to purchase a number for our 200 Club Raffle. It costs £5 for one number (more than one can be purchased if you wish), which will then be entered into all six prize draws over the school year.
All you need to do, is pick up a leaflet from the office if you didn't catch it coming your way from the children and get your order in to OSFA. There was a slight error in the fact that they forgot to put the price of a number on the leaflet - as mentioned above, this is £5.
Stars of the Week
Well done to Mila in Holly Class, Jake in Elm, Jack in Willow Class, Annie in Beech and Gracie in Oak who are our Stars of the week, for great attitudes to learning in class, having the confidence to put forward their ideas to join in class discussions and for trying really hard. Keep up the great work!
