Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 5(26/27)
Weekly Round Up
This week saw the first group of pupils heading out to represent Overton St Helen's, taking part in a Year 5/6 boys football competition. The group did a great job - even though they did not go through to the very end of the tournament, they played with resilience and a great attitude. Mr Saban was proud of their attitude and how they supported each other, which is excellent to hear.
Later this afternoon our older pupils will again be off to represent Overton in the first meet of this year's Athletics League. Good luck!
On Thursday we welcomed more families who came to have a look around school for our second of three open day events. Our Year 6 pupils are doing a fabulous job of leading guided tours around school. If you know of anyone who is considering primary school applications this Autumn, please let them know that we have another open event planned for Tuesday 10th Nov from 9.30am.
Harvest Collection
Thank you again to those families who donated very generously to our Harvest Appeal last week. Our Christian Value this half-term is Koinonia which means fellowship. It was great to see this in action in our school community with so many willing to help others in need.
And that community action continued when Morecambe Foodbank came to collect yesterday, with willing volunteers from Oak class pleased and proud to lend a hand in packing it all in boxes and loading it onto the van. Catch our Facebook page to see them in action.
Our House Captains hope you will continue to help the foodbank support others with another collection planned before Christmas. More on this at a later date.
OSFA 200 Club
OSFA has asked me to remind all our community about our 200 Club draw. This is a great little fundraiser for OSFA whilst at the same time giving you a chance to win some money!
This is how it works. Anyone can buy a 'number' for £5. Your number then lasts you for six draws over the entire school year. We draw a number out of the bag on the last Friday morning of each half-term where the winner will receive £25 or £100 (£25 at the half-term stage and £100 at the end of each term).
It's as simple as that - but by buying a number, or multiple numbers, you not only give yourself a chance to win, but support OSFA and all the amazing stuff they do for our school and it's pupils.
If you wish to purchase a number, then pick up a flyer from the school entrance and drop it in our OSFA box in the hall on return. Alternatively buy your number on line by following the details given.
Easy Peasy App for Parents
Lancaster Family Hub have asked us to share with you information about a new app that families may find helpful.
Lancashire County Council have commissioned Best Start in Life's Easy Peasey app for all families in Lancashire with children 0-5yrs old. This is free for parents and provides activities that support the learning and development of very young children.
It's full of ideas and activities to create a rich learning environment at home and may just be something you refer to for ideas to support your little one's development.
Stars of the Week
Congratulations to Freddie in Holly Class, Aria in Elm Class, Jax in Willow, Marcie in Beech and Elliot in Oak Class who were our Stars of the Week for having great attitudes to work, for working independently and focusing on a task and making great contributions to the class.
Well done all.
