Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 5
Weekly Round Up
It's been another fab week in school, highlighted perfectly by the wonderful variety of work shared in celebration worship this morning. We saw Willow Class's amazingly clever work with microbits, some very effective artwork from Beech Class and writing that definitely captured our attention from Oak Class. Great to see such creativity across the curriculum.
On Monday morning, Morecambe Foodbank came to collect the food kindly donated for our Harvest Festival. They were very grateful for our effort and invited the House Captains to visit the foodbank one afternoon to see what happens with all the donations and help out. We will absolutely take up this offer, which may inspire us to do more for them in the future.
OSFA News
Many thanks to those who came to our OSFA AGM yesterday afternoon, where we heard a round up of last years fundraising efforts and the ways in which OSFA supported the school community. A massive thanks to them for all their hard work.
They are all set with some new recruits, to begin another busy year adding to the life of the school and wanted me to remind you of a couple of things, for starters.
First, the 200 Club raffle. This is a year-long lottery, drawn at 6 points over the academic year, where numbers (1-200) can be purchased and then entered into each draw. For a one-off payment of £5 per number you have six chances to win either £25 (at the end of each half-term) or £100 (at the end of each term). Anyone can purchase a number and you can also purchase more than one number if you wish. More details of how to do this will be coming your way from the OSFA team soon.
The second is to draw your attention to Easyfundraising. Follow the link to set yourself up - basically this organisation adds money to a specific charity when purchasing from over 8000 different online retailers. Last year OSFA raised over £400 from only 17 people signed up - imagine the amount we would raise if we all signed up! Please take a look (especially with Christmas coming up) and think about using this - it will make a huge impact to the funds OSFA raise throughout the year.

Last thing to let you know is that we now have a date for the October 'Glow Disco'. Have a look in the dates section to get it in the diary - booking forms will be coming out shortly.
Parents' Evening
Letters have been sent home this week regarding our upcoming Parent's Evening on Wednesday 22nd October. Our Autumn Term parent's evening focusses on reporting how your child has settled into the new school year. Teachers will offer short 5 minute appointments to report the headlines to you. If any parent would like a longer chat following this, please let your child's teacher know.
Macmillan Fundraiser
A huge thanks to all our parents and grandparents who supported our Macmillan Coffee Afternoon last Friday. A massive well done to our House Captains too, who served cakes all afternoon and also helped to clear and wash up afterwards. Together we raised a fantastic £284 for Macmillan Cancercare - thank you so much for your support!
School Application deadlines
A reminder that high school and primary school applications can be made online at www.lancashire.gov.uk/schools under the heading 'School Admissions' and then selecting 'primary' or 'secondary' schools.
The deadline for secondary school applications is 31st October 2025. The deadline for primary school applications is 15th January 2026.
Stars of the Week
Well done to Robyn in Holly Class, Evan in Elm Class, Gracie in Willow, Martha in Beech and Max in Oak Class who are our Stars of the Week for showing determination and a great attitude in their work. They were noticed for pushing themselves in their learning this week, asking questions and embracing their mistakes. Great job everyone!
