Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 4

Weekly Round Up

What a great day it has been today! This morning, the Worship Council led our annual Harvest Service. They shared an important message about being thankful for clean water, informing us about the important work of Water Aid, bringing clean water to millions of people all over the world. A huge well done to Mr Wood and his team for a really well presented service.

Thank you so much for all the Harvest Donations that were sent to school this week. The House Captains will have the job of boxing it all up ready for when Morecambe Foodbank come to collect next week.

Thank you also for the generous donation of cakes for this afternoon's Macmillan Coffee event. I am always blown away by the generosity of our parent community. When we ask, you deliver in spectacular style, so thank you very much from me and all the pupils.

Parking

Could I remind all parents that parking on the area where the school bus pulls into each morning and afternoon, is not allowed. Please keep this area clear of cars so that our school bus can pull up next to the pavement allowing our pupils safe access on and off it. Could I also remind parents to avoid pulling in to the carpark to pick up pupils. This is a staff carpark which when full, can only be exited by reversing - something which should not be happening at the end of the day when Lancaster Rd is busy.

Many thanks.

Happy News

I have great pleasure in sharing with you the happy, if not slightly late, news of Mrs Moffatt's new arrival! Henry Thomas Moffat arrived on 13th September, weighing in at 7lbs, 2oz. The whole family are doing great and we are looking forward to meeting him in due course. Many wonderful congratulations from us all!

School Application deadlines

A reminder that high school and primary school applications can be made online at www.lancashire.gov.uk/schools under the heading 'School Admissions' and then selecting 'primary' or 'secondary' schools.

The deadline for secondary school applications is 31st October 2025. The deadline for primary school applications is 15th January 2026.

On Thursday we welcomed many prospective new parents to our Open Morning, for entry in September 2026. A big thank you to members of Oak Class who were tour guides for the morning, leading visitors through the school and giving them their unique take on school life. I am pleased to say, everyone was impressed!

Good Luck!

Good luck to all those members of our school community (including me and Mrs Birkett!) who are taking part in the Marathon charity walk this Saturday in support of Motor Neurone Disease Association. We will be setting off at 7am from Milnthorpe and heading for Overton and our finish line at about 5pm(ish), so look out for us, give us a beep of your horn if you pass us, or clap us into the village. More importantly, if you want to drop a donation in the MDNA bucket, please do so in aid of this great cause.

Stars of the Week

Well done to Harmonie in Holly Class, Reggie in Elm, Corey in Willow Class, Charles in Beech Class and Ellie in Oak, who are our Stars of the Week, for again, showing great attitude to learning in class, joining in discussions, being resilient in their learning and showing kindness. Well done all.
