Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 33(25/26)

Weekly Round Up

What a scorcher it's been in school this week! Inevitably, we've had to take a slightly slower pace in our learning, but we've still managed to pack lots in.

Each class made the most of our Forest School area at some point during the week, enjoying the opportunity to work and play under the shade of the trees. We also had two classes out on trips; on Tuesday, Willow Class had a fabulous day bird watching and pond dipping at Leighton Moss and on Wednesday, Elm Class visited the big house and enjoyed falconry demonstrations at Leighton Hall. Both Mr Wood and Mrs Harding were extremely proud of our pupil's conduct and enthusiasm during the visits.

We've ended the week off with OSFA's 'Yes' day. The school hall looked very colourful this morning in worship as children sported various hair styles and colours, pyjamas, football strips and much more. Thanks go to Alex Jones and Luke Brooks, two of our fab dads who came along to lead fun football sessions today whilst children took shots at Morecambe FC's giant inflatable target too. What a great way to end the week.

Upcoming Events

With only three weeks left to the end of the school year, I wanted to draw your attention to some specific events coming up that parents will not want to miss.

Next week is an important week for our Year 6s who will be visiting their chosen high schools for a day. We also have more visits on the horizon, with Willow Class and Beech Class out at Coniston next Thursday and Friday respectively.

Our rescheduled Sports Day is penciled in for Wednesday 8th July; let's all hope the weather is dry but not too hot! The following day, our youngest three classes, Maple, Holly and Elm, will be trekking over to Sunderland Point on Thursday 9th and then we finish that week with OSFA's Colour Dash (more below)!

During the final week of the school year, our attention will turn to our Year 6s. On Thursday 16th July they will be leading their own Leaver's Assembly with Y6 parents being invited to come along and watch (don't forget your tissues). Then on Friday, after a quiet Thanksgiving Service at St Helen's Church for our Year 6s and their Oak Y5 classmates, there will be the usual shirt signing and farewells. A letter with more details will be sent home with all our Y6s.

One final thing to note - our final Celebration Worship with our end of term Values Awards will take place on Wednesday 15th July - all parents are welcome to join us as usual.

OSFA Colour Dash

On Friday 10th July, OSFA will be holding a Colour Dash on the school field.

If you were there for last year's event, then you will know that this involves a lot of colour and a whole load of fun! The event will take place from 2.30pm on the field and will start with the younger pupils running the course first, then gradually move through the age groups. Adults are welcome to join in too with their children.

The afternoon will end with, I am thrilled to say, the teacher gunging! However, in order to get the teachers gunged, a certain amount of raffle tickets must be sold AND the person who sells the most raffle tickets, will get to tip the bucket over Mrs Easthope's head!

The raffle this summer is a Rainbow Raffle and OSFA would like each class to collect for a particular colour prize. See the poster for all the details.

Stars of the Week

Well done to Alba in Maple Class, Harmonie in Holly Class, Joshua in Elm, Lola in Willow Class, Edith in Beech Class and Rose in Oak, who were our Stars of the Week for showing positivity and enthusiasm in their learning, working hard and spreading cheerfulness.
