Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 3(26/27)
Weekly Round Up
What another really excellent week at Overton this week! Our classes have dived head first into new topics and texts, it's been a please to observe. From the wonderful worlds of Loch Ness Monsters, Narnia and The Nowhere Emporium, to Robots and toys that come to life on Planet Duvet, our new themes have definitely captured imaginations. In celebration worship this morning we were privileged to see a fabulous Robot Dance by some very courageous members of Elm Class, demonstrating perfectly how the books we read filter through into all aspects of learning in school.
It was great to see a variety of after-school clubs start up this week for the term ahead; it's great that so many of our pupils want to give an extra bit of time to developing their skills in school.
Looking ahead to next week, things are looking busy! On Tuesday, Lancashire Fire and Rescue teams will be coming into school to talk about road safety with Elm and Oak classes and on Thursday we will be holding an Open Morning for prospective new starters (with guided tours from our Year 6 pupils). At the end of the week, on Friday morning, Worship Council will be leading our Harvest Festival and then our house captains will be serving tea and cake in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care in the afternoon (more details of both these events below).
Lots to look forward to.
Harvest Festival
Each year we mark harvest time with the tradition of holding a Harvest Festival. This is always led by our Worship Council; their first duty of the year. All parents are welcome as always on a Friday to join us for the event, which will start at the usual time of 8.45am.
For a number of years now we have collected donations of food for Morecambe Foodbank who are always incredibly grateful for the amount we give. From next Monday, please begin sending donations of food to school; packets or tins, cereals, toiletries, UHT milk and even pet food are amongst the items gratefully accepted. On Thursday afternoon our house captains will be putting the harvest display together, so please send donations in before then. Many thanks in advance for your support.
Macmillan Coffee Afternoon
Next Friday afternoon we will be hosting our annual Macmillan coffee afternoon, raising vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Care. This is a cause close to our hearts at Overton and so a definite date that always remains in our school calendar. Again, our House Captains will be on duty serving cakes and hot drinks and we would like to invite you to come along and support us, from 1.30pm. Please bring friends and neighbours along too.
We also need to appeal to all you wonderful bakers out there for donations of cakes for the event. It is always made special by the wonderful donations of home baking we receive so please, if you have time, bake for the event and send it in to school on Friday morning.

Reminders
Can I please again stress the importance of parking safely and fairly when dropping off and picking up at the beginning and end of the day. We have received reports of blocked pavements and driveways, so please be aware of how you are parking and keep others in mind.
Could I also politely remind our parents that there is no smoking or vaping allowed within school premises, inside and out. Many thanks.
Stars of the Week
Congratulations to Louie in Holly Class, Maverick in Elm, Maisie in Willow Class, Nate in Beech and Jaxon in Oak who are our Stars of the Week for demonstrating a fabulous attitude to work and class, for showing kindness and consideration and rising to the challenges they face. Well done all.
An additional shout out goes to all our new members of Maple Class who have had there first day all together as a whole class today. From now on, they are fully fledged members of school and we are all looking forward to getting to know them well. A good rest will definitely be on the cards this weekend (especially for Mrs Marsland and Miss Bailey!!).
