Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 31(25/26)

Weekly Round Up

I'm afraid this week has been a week of two halves, dictated mainly by the weather. It started off positively with the sun shining on us as we hosted the annual Cross Country Competition here at Overton. I'm proud of every single one of our pupils that represented the school, showing perseverance and courage to go the distance. An additional 'hurray' goes to our Year 2 team who came third overall in the KS1 race.

Now, we never like to let the weather dictate things here at Overton, however after being wrong all weekend, the forecasters got Wednesday correct and we unfortunately had to cancel our Sports Day. Since that, the low pressure has well and truly set in and it's been wet ever since! I hope everyone received the message about the rescheduled date, Wednesday 8th July - collectively we now need to keep everything crossed, say our prayers and hope for a scorcher that week!

Next week, our Year 6's will be out of school, away at Winmarleigh Hall for their residential visit. We hope they all have a great time.

Polytunnel Rewards

I am really pleased to share with our community the success of our polytunnel and the value that it brings the school. We are now beginning to reap the benefits of the crops we planted at the start of the year, including peas, beetroot, onions, strawberries, radishes, garlic and potatoes.

It is such an enormous source of wellbeing; many of our pupils feel the reward of harvesting something they have carefully nurtured and seen grow over the week, in addition to enjoying the wonderfully sweet strawberries or having the pleasure of pinching a pea pod and eating the goodies inside.

We should have some more of our goods ready to share with our community at some point, so please look out for adhoc text messages letting parents know if something is available. We are obviously keen for our produce to be eaten and enjoyed and if there is some left over from our food technology products, then we would love our wider community to enjoy it too.

Stars of the Week

Well done to Harry in Maple Class, Robyn in Holly Class, Luna in Elm, Oscar in Willow Class, Emily in Beech and Jacob in Oak, who were our Stars of the Week, for showing enthusiasm in their learning, both in and out of the classroom, for being hard working and reliable.

Well done to all.
