Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 29(25/26)

Weekly Round Up

It's been an extremely hard working week this week in school. The whole school supported our Year 6s as they completed their SATs tests - they were quiet and still when they needed to be, gave them space and encouragement and enabled our Year 6s to get on with the job.

On the topic of our Year 6s, we are so proud of their attitude and effort this week. They showed great maturity and resilience to concentrate hard when it was needed and show their skills. After the final test was complete, it was a treat of churros, fresh fruit, cream and sauce (which was a hit) followed by an extended PE lesson... in the rain!! Nobody minded though, as we were all just pleased they were over.

Now it's full steam ahead to Rose Festival next Friday. Have a look at the next section of the newsletter for all the details.

Rose Festival 2026

Next Friday afternoon, we will be holding our annual Rose Festival when our retiring King and Queen, Michael and Thea, will return to hand over their crowns to our new King and Queen, Max and Ava.

It is always such a joyful afternoon and we hope you will have the time to join us in the sunshine for the celebrations. The festivities will begin at 1.15pm with the Rose Queen from 10 years ago opening the Festival. Parents should arrive from 1pm to take their places on the bottom playground to watch. There will then be the procession of the Rose Kings and Queens and once the new King and Queen have been crowned, there will be music and dancing from each class.

Once the dancing has finished, the King and Queen will make their exit.

That will conclude the Rose Queen Festival and all pupils will return to their classes to be collected by parents in the usual way. Please just bear with us as the pupils will be taking the chairs they will be sat on back to their classrooms.

However, we then invite you to stay for a while when tea, coffee and cake will be served on the top playground. We will be collecting for St John's Hospice, so please give generously into our honesty buckets.

The Ice-cream van will also be here, so ice-creams and tasty treats can also be purchased.

Can I remind all parents that pupils must be accompanied by parents if staying after the Rose Festival, as staff will be busy helping to serve tea and coffee.

Cake Donations Needed

As mentioned above, we have chosen to support ST John's Hospice at our Rose Festival this year and will be collecting donations for tea, coffee and cake, for this cause. All proceeds will go to the Hospice.

Therefore we would ask those amazing cake makers amongst you, to please bake for us so we can have a fantastic spread next Friday. Please send cakes in to us on Friday morning and thank you so much!

St John's Hospice Half-Term Challenge

St John's Hospice is such a highly valued and special place for many families and individuals in our local area. That is why we at Overton St Helen's always choose to support it's fundraising efforts.

Over half-term they are inviting everyone to join them in their 40th year celebrations by challenging themselves to raise £40. Some of our pupils and families have already taken part in St John's challenges in the past but they need our help again.

If you decide to take this on, we would love to hear about it. Take photos of you completing your challenge and when we return after the half-term, let us know what you did and we will celebrate it in school.

Good luck!
