Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 28(25/26)

Weekly Round Up

Inevitably, Friday seems to have come around quickly this week and once again, I am pleased to report it's been a hard working week in school.

On Tuesday, we welcomed Ant from Morecambe Bay Partnership who will be helping us with a Blue Influencers project, led by Oak Class pupils, focusing on environmental challenges facing our coastal area.

On Wednesday, Willow Class were out on a trip to Brockholes in the Lake District undertaking map work and field study linked to their class topic. A great day was had by all.

A special mention on this particular Friday has to go to our Year 6 pupils who have worked really hard preparing for their SATs tests which take place all next week. They have shown resilience and perseverance and we are proud of the attitude they have brought to their studies. It is however important for them to know that although next week matters, it is the measure of the whole child that counts. We are proud of their curiosity, their kindness, their humour and strength, their energy and determination and how they have grown into the best versions of themselves - things that a written test can't measure.

Rose Festival

Two weeks to go!

Whilst next week's priority is keeping the school routine as calm and focused as possible for our Year 6's, Rose Festival preparations are quietly underway in the background. Indeed, in two weeks we will be in full Rose Festival swing.

For our parents who are new to all of this, our Rose Festival is a great Overton tradition that has been going for many, many years. The event takes place in the afternoon with a procession of the retiring Rose King and Queen and then the crowning of the new Rose King and Queen for 2026. This is followed by music and dancing from all our classes.

The festivities lead us nicely to the end of the day, when parents are welcome to stay for tea and cake on the top playground. There will also be an ice-cream van for some tasty treats.

More details will be on next week's newsletter, but keep the dates in your diary as it is an event not to be missed!

Star of the Week

Well done to all our individual Stars of the Week; Connie D in Maple Class, Logan in Holly Class, Coby in Elm Class, Caleb in Willow and Ezmay in Beech who have all worked hard, overcoming challenges and keeping focused in their lessons, showing enthusiasm and pride.

Two Oak Class Star of the Week awards were given, the first one to our Year 6s for the hard work they have shown in preparing for their SATs, and the second one to the Year 5s in Oak Class who have supported their Y6 classmates by being patient, flexible and understanding. It is always greatly appreciated,

Well done all.
