Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 28
Weekly Round Up
The final half-term has started off as it means to go on - full of purpose and activity.
On Wednesday, Willow Class went off to Kirkby Lonsdale for a Geography field trip. They dodged the showers, having to eat their lunch on the bus, however managed to complete their field studies despite the weather! Then, the following day, Beech and Elm Class went out of school to complete work in History and English, spending the day on Morecambe Promenade, again dodging showers! I'm so pleased to see that the wonderful June weather doesn't stop our plans!
It's been a week of settling back into the pace of the school day and it has been lovely to see all our pupils rested and ready to go again for the last weeks of the year.
Next week is a busy one with lots going on from special visitors, to special events! A letter has been sent out today to explain next week in more detail, all of which follows the theme of sports and keeping fit. Please look out for it in school bags.
Rose Festival
Even though it feels like a distant memory now, it was so lovely to see so many parents, grandparents and friends join us for our Rose Festival at the very end of last half-term. And what a great afternoon it was; the sun shone down on us, our new Rose King and Rose Queen were crowned and all the classes danced magnificently. I hope you all managed to take a look at the photos of the afternoon on our Facebook page.
My thanks to all parents who came to support. My thanks also to Natty Appell and Katy Hargreaves, our retiring King and Queen who joined us from their respective high schools for the afternoon. It was great to see them again and have them with us. Once again, congratulations to Thea and Michael who were crowned Overton St Helen's Rose King and Rose Queen 2025!
Sports Day
Next week, we have many activities and events happening in school along the theme of sport and keeping fit. A highlight of the week is our Sports Day, taking place on Wednesday morning. Last year, due to the horrendous summer weather, we had to cancel sports day and even struggled to find an alternative amidst the rainy days that seemed to be relentless. Dare I say, it looks better this year so fingers crossed we are not rained off!
During the morning, all children complete a circuit of six different events and parents are welcome to rotate around the school field with their children's class to watch them compete. We ask all parents to please watch from the sides of the school field and stand well away from the finish lines of each separate race.
Children will accumulate points for their house and at the end of the morning, a winning house and individual winners for Key Stage One and Key Stage Two boys and girls will be announced.
OSFA will be selling tea, coffee and other drinks for parents to purchase for themselves. Please make sure your child has their drinks bottle in school that day as they will need it for the morning too.
Mr Coultas Memorial Day
On Friday next week, we are having a football themed day in memory of Mr Coultas who we so suddenly lost two years ago. Next Friday, all pupils are welcome to come to school in football kit. Iif you haven't got one of these, your PE kit or sports wear will do just as well; there is no need to get something just for the day if you're not a football kit kind of person.
In the morning, we have experts joining us who will put our classes through their paces with some training sessions and in the afternoon, we will be having a mini-tournament with teams made up of all ages in Key Stage Two. Miss Griffin is designing a special themed lunch for the occasion which children can order on the day (please make sure Parent Pay accounts are topped up if you wish to have this), details of which will be sent out next week.
The most important element of the day is to raise money for The British Heart Foundation. Parents so kindly donate to our chosen charities on certain days of the year and so we are asking you to dig deep again to support this amazing charity. Please send anything in you can on the day - thank you.
SIAMS Inspection
A letter has been sent via email to all parents today, informing you of our upcoming SIAMS Inspection (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) , which will take place next Thursday, 12th June.
Our Inspector will join us early in the morning before school starts and will be with us all day. She will be moving in and out of classes, talking to members of our whole school community, including many of our pupils. School inspections are always important and sometimes tense days, however I am looking forward to showing her the many brilliant things about our school and our pupils, celebrating our school community.

Star of the Week
Well done to Harmonie in Maple Class, Evelyn in Holly Class, Flynn in Willow, William in Beech and Michael in Oak who were the Stars of the Week for their commitment to their work, showing great involvement in their learning and making good contributions. The Elm Class Star of the Week went to the whole class, for the tenacity they showed during their rainy trip out on Thursday, with no complaining at all.
We mustn't forget to mention those who were given Stars of the Week just before half-term. Well done to Harmonie (again!) in Maple Class, Meadow in Holly, Jack in Elm, Shay in Willow Class, Annabelle in Beech Class and Ollie in Oak who were given their awards for the effort, teamwork and determination they showed that week.
Finally, a mention to our Values Award recipients who were given their awards last half-term for 'letting their lights shine before others'. Well done to Aoife-Rose from Oak Class, Martha from Beech, Annie from Willow, Millie from Elm Class, Harley from Holly Class and Robyn from Maple. Izaak was given Miss Hall's Values Award and Zac was given my award. Congratulations to all.
