Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 27
Weekly Round Up
It's been a week full of challenges, with our Year 6 pupils working really hard to complete their SATs tests. These tests always happen for year 6 pupils all over the country, during the middle week of May - they test children 's understanding in reading, grammar and mathematics. It's a gruelling, intense four days for our 11 year olds, however we make the best of it in every way we can. Mrs Ingham and I are incredibly proud of the resilience and perseverance our pupils have shown; they should feel very proud of themselves for the effort they have made.
Next week, we look ahead to the last day of the half-term and our Rose Festival, which will take place from 1.30pm. More details are below, but we look forward to everyone joining us for this special event.
Rose Festival
Our annual Rose Festival will take place next Friday afternoon, from 1.30pm. It will begin with a procession, led by our old Rose King and Queen, returning from their respective high-schools for the afternoon. Then our new Rose King and Rose Queen will make their entrance. There will be songs and dancing from all the classes including the traditional Maypole and Morris Dance, before the crowned King and Queen will then take their leave. It is a lovely afternoon and one which is a very special tradition of Overton St Helen's.
All parents are invited to come and join us to watch the celebration - when you arrive, please make your way around to the lower playground where the festival will take place.
Once our Rose Festival is over, children will return to their classroom where they should be collected as normal. All are invited however to have tea and cake with us once the school day is ended. This will hopefully be on the upper playground (weather dependent) or alternatively, the school hall. Parents must attend this with their children, as the teachers will not be supervising pupils after 2.30pm.
Parent Questionnaire
Thanks to those who have already completed the questionnaire, a link to which was sent out via text last week. If you haven't yet completed it, please consider doing so. We value the feedback this gives us, which also helps us to set targets for the continuous development of our school in years to come.
The link to the survey is below:
School Photos
You may notice a new date has been added to the list below. On Tuesday 17th June, Tempest Photography will be in school, taking individual photos and family groups.
As always, families who have little ones younger than school age are welcome to come to school from 8.15am to have a group photo taken, if you wish.
Happy News
I have the pleasure of announcing the happy news that Mrs Moffat is expecting again. Some of the keen eyed amongst you may have had your suspicions already, as her bump is beginning to show!
Huge congratulations to Mr and Mrs Moffat from us all.

Star of the Week
Well done to Logan in Maple Class, Jax in Holly Class, Jace in Elm, Freddie in Willow Class and Cara in Beech Class who were our Stars of the Week for showing confidence, determination and improvement in their work. The Oak Class Star of the Week award went to the whole of Oak Class, for their perseverance during SATs tests, including our Y5s in Oak too who supported their older classmates brilliantly. Well done all.
