Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 26
Weekly Round Up
Another shorter week this week, but hard working nonetheless, with lots of great things achieved in all classes.
Yesterday, we particularly enjoyed the special 80th anniversary of VE Day, looking back to when World War Two finally ended for everyone in Europe. In celebration worship this morning Elm Class shared the things they had learnt about older members of their family and the roles they played in the War, reminding us of the heroics that became everyday life for those who lived through this time. Yesterday's special school lunch included sandwiches, sausage rolls, crisps, veggies and a huge cream cake to finish, in classic British tea party style!
Next week our attention turns to our Year 6 who will be completing their SATs tests. Our thoughts are also with all our past pupils who are beginning their GCSEs - good luck to all!
Parent Questionnaire
Thanks to those who have already completed the questionnaire, a link to which was sent out via text last week. If you haven't yet completed it, please consider doing so. We value the feedback this gives us, which also helps us to set targets for the continuous development of our school in years to come.

Uniform Reminders
School uniform is important in many ways. Not only does it create an impression of belonging and readiness for school, but it is a way in which children learn to account for themselves and understand that there are codes which need to be followed - a great skill for later life in high school and eventually, employment. A child coming to school in smart school uniform is a child who is coming to school, ready to learn.
Could I please remind parents that part of our uniform includes small, smart school bobbles. Also, nail varnish should be removed with no jewelry other than small, discreet stud earrings. Can I also again remind parents about the length of shorts, which should be as a basic guide line, longer than school jumpers and absolutely not, Nike Pro gym shorts, as these are much too short. Many thanks.
Sun Cream
As the nice weather continues just a quick reminder regarding sun cream. Please try to apply sun cream to your children before they come to school if it is going to be a sunny day. If your child is particularly susceptible to sunburn, then you may wish to send sun cream into school with them however please know that this will be for your own child only and we cannot allow them to share it with others. Thanks.
A message to our Year 6
Next week is a tough week for all our Year 6s as they complete their SATs tests. The rest of the school will be supporting them all the way, by staying out of their way as the tests are completed and keeping the school as quiet and calm a place as possible.
This weekend Year 6, you need to have a good rest and make sure you get plenty of sleep! If nerves creep in, just remember that all you need to do next week, is try your best. SATs tests remember, do not measure everything about you. They do not measure the values you hold, the kindness you show or the many other skills you have learned throughout your seven years in primary school. However, they are a chance to show people what you can do, so take a deep breath, square your shoulders and we will face them head on next week, together!
