Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 25(25/26)

Weekly Round Up

What a great first week to the term. It was lovely to see all our pupils return on Monday, all definately a bit taller, ready to settle in to their learning and eager to reconnect with their friends. I have been really impressed with their collective attitude. I hope, like us, you are also enjoying the blossom whilst it sticks around. The ground will turn pink in the coming weeks, always a lovely signal that warmer sunny weather is on its way.

With that in mind, please take note of the events added in the dates section. This term is definately our 'outdoor' term with events and visits already planned getting us out and about, from walks in the local area to adventurous days out in The Lakes. Two of our KS2 classes; Willow and Oak, will also begin projects collaborating with Morecambe Bay Partnership, focussing on environmental issues on our doorstep. Watch this space for more information and how you could possibly help.

Don't forget, all the hard work and committment we show is celebrated each week in our Friday worships at 8.45am. Parents are always welcome to join us for this each week.

Primary School Places

This week, families in the area recieved their offer of a primary school place for their little ones starting school in September. It is always both a nervous and exciting time of the year and we always look forward to meeting our new intake and their families.

We do understand however that allocated schools, especially when first or second choices have not been offered, can create some anxiety. If you know someone in this situation, or who is still considering their options, we currently have places available for September and would be happy to welcome them at Overton.

We may just be the school for them, so please encourage them to come for a visit.

After School Clubs

After school club letters have gone home and come back this week, in order for most clubs to begin next week.

Please note that if your child has a place at Choir Club, this will start on Monday 27th April and not next Monday. Thank you.

Tribute to a Lovely Lady

This week we heard the very sad news that Alison Ainsworth, a past parent and OSFA member, finally lost her battle with Motor Neurone Disease. She leaves husband Steve and son Charlie who I would ask you to keep in your thoughts and prayers.

Alison was a wonderful member of our school family who ran our 200 Club for a few years, as well as supporting us as a member of the OSFA team at every event. She was always happy to be involved in school life and was a smiling and steady presence. She made the most amazing Chocolate Rice Crispy Cake - both Mrs Barry amd I would get possibly too excited at receiving our own special little bags of it from Alison at Christmas time, as she knew we loved it so much!

She was a kind and generous lady who will surely be missed by all her friends and family. As they say good bye to her next week, the love and prayers of the school will be with them.

Stars of the Week

Well done to Chloe in Maple Class, Hallie in Holly Class, Reggie in Elm, Emily B in Willow Class, Olivia in Beech Class and Jessica in Oak, who are our Stars of the Week for demonstrating a great attitude to the new school term, showing kindness to others and maximum effort in their work, especially with Maths!!

Great stuff - keep up the good work!
