Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 23(25/26)
Weekly Round Up
What a superb week it's been - from singing festivals to cereal boxes, hard-work to loads of fun, it's been none stop! Two groups have been out to represent us in athletics fixtures, our Y3/4 squad yesterday and our Y5/6 squad this evening. The Y3/4 squad is currently standing in second place out of 12 schools, but we will have to wait until next week before we find out if they've managed to retain a medal place in the competition. No doubt our Y5/6 atheltetes will be giving it their all later!
Next week is Art Week in school. Whilst morning lessons will be more of the usual routine, our afternoons will be given over to some fabulous art projects that we would love you to come and see, next Friday afternoon in the school hall. We will also be joined by local artist Chas Jacobs who will be working with each class over the first two days of the week.
Lots to look forward to!
Big Sing Success
A massive congratulations to Elm Class and pupils of our School Choir who took part in the Big Sing Festival this week. Monday's perfomance gave our Y2 the chance to shine with other KS1 pupils from various schools and they were fantastic. Then on Thursday, our choir sang their hearts out with other KS2 children from different schools in the area. A particular mention must go to Mason, Orlaith and Layla who did readings to introduce the final section of the show and Emma in Oak Class who sang as a soloist from our school.
All our pupils were truly fantastic!
Domino Delight
What amazing fun we had this morning setting up and then knocking down our cereal box domino run. We had a very calm and focussed group of school councillors this morning setting it all up with myself and Mr Saban and then the whole school gathered around to watch it go!
I have to admit that we were a little stressed about it all going smoothly, but we couldn't have wished for a better outcome. Take a look at our Facebook page to watch the video and hear the children's excitement!
More importantly, 341 boxes of cereal have been collected for the Foodbank, who will be coming by next week in order to collect it all.
THANK YOU so much for supporting our crazy idea!
Year 5 Trip to London
Next Tuesday our Year 5 group will be off to London, to tour the Houses of Parliament and then take in some of the sites. It is always a fabulous trip and we are very excited about it.
I will be meeting with Year 5 next Monday ahead of the trip to let them know what they will need with them. I always advise them to bring card games, top trumps, note pads and pens or other things that will keep them busy on the train ride down. However, no electronics or phones please! Also, please do not forget plenty of drink and snacks as it will be a long day.
Art and Cake!
As mentioned above, next week is Art Week. We will be hosting a gallery event in the school hall from 2pm where parents can come and view all the amazing art work we will create. You are welcome to collect your chidlren early from class to view the work with you.
To make the occasion even more special, OSFA will be organising a cake stall. This does however mean we need to ask for some kind baking donations for this. If you are able to, please send in any cake donations next Friday morning. Thank you.
Stars of the Week
Well done to Margot in Maple Class, Sophia in Holly Class, Layla in Willow, Arthur in Beech Class and Ava in Oak who were our Stars of the Week for their fabulous work effort, for showing kindness and compassion and being a repsonsible class member. A Star of the Week award went to the whole of Elm Class and the School Choir, recognising their fabulous efforts in the singing festivals.
Well done to all!
