Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 2(26/27)

Weekly Round Up

It's been a great first full week in school! In this morning's celebration worship, we heard from each class, sharing just a snippet of the work they have produced from our shared text 'What We'll Build' by Oliver Jeffers. All our classes have used this book as inspiration for some settling back in work; it was wonderful to hear the types of ideas it's generated in each class.

This morning I also had the pleasure of announcing our new councils for the school year. More about that below.

Thank you to those parents who came to our Meet the Teacher evening on Wednesday this week - it was great to see you all. For those that missed it, teachers will be posting class newsletters on the website today full of really useful information for parents. Please make sure you have a read so that you can be fully informed about all things class related.

Next week, after-school clubs start up. Pupils should have been told whether they have places in the clubs they applied for, but if there is any doubt, please catch your child's class teacher to check this.

A reminder that next Thursday the school nurses team will be in school to administer Flu Immunisation nasal sprays to all our pupils who have opted for this. It is helpful for our younger pupils that you discuss this beforehand so it doesn't come as a huge surprise on the day.

School Councils

It was great to introduce our three pupil councils for the year ahead this morning in worship. Our School Council, Worship Council and Eco-Council make sure we capture pupil voice at Overton, discussing some really important stuff and feeding it back to me and the rest of the staff.

I am happy to let you know who they all are:

School Council

High School Open Days and Applications

It's the time of year when many of our local high schools are hosting their open evenings as a chance for current Year 6 and Year 5 children to look around. This week I have added the dates on which our high schools will be hosting their open events, to the below dates section - if you can't see the one that you are particularly interested in then look out on their own website as notice will be given soon. Both LRGS and Ripley Academy held their open days in the summer and so these have passed.

If you would like any advise about choosing the best high school for your child we do have some experience and knowledge of them all, mainly through feedback from past parents and pupils. Feel free to ask Mrs Ingham, Mr Saban or myself if you have any queries.

The deadline for high school applications is Saturday 31st October. Parents should make applications via the online form; if you're not quite sure where to find this, simply google 'Lancashire High School applications' and you should get to where you need to be.

Pet Service

On Sunday 13th September, St Helen's Church will be having a Pet Service, inviting children to bring along their pets and give thanks for them. Our friends St Helen's Church are extremely brave!

Have a look at the poster opposite for times and details and go along if you wish.

Stars of the Week

A huge well done to Isla in Holly class, Robyn in Elm Class, Polly in Willow, Imogen in Beech and Jaycee in Oak who were our Stars of the Week for working extremely hard in school, for showing a great attitude and for listening carefully.

It's been a brilliant first full week, so well done to everyone!
