Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 21(25/26)
Weekly Round Up
Welcome back to the start of the new half-term. It was wonderful to see all our pupils return on Monday, ready to make a start on their new learning. However, it's a 'blink and you miss it' half-term this time, lasting only 5 weeks - and we're at the end of the first one already!! There's lots to pack into it, so please take note of the dates section detailing upcoming events.
We hit the ground running with visits from the Big Sing team on Monday and Tuesday, who worked with both Choir and Elm Class to help with preparations for the Singing Festival. If you still have slips to return, tickets to order etc for that, please do so as soon as you can so that we are all organised.
A huge well done to our small team of Year 2 gymnasts; Aliza, Charlotte, Luna, Joshua and Lilah who entered a Key Steps competition yesterday evening. They came away with team silver medals and an individual bronze for Aliza! Amazing job!
Finally, it was wonderful to be joined by Maple Class for our Friday celebration worship this morning. It's a lovely moment when I can see our whole school in one glance - great to see our school hall so full!
World Book Day!
Next Thursday is World Book Day! This is a wonderful day in school where we dress up as our favourite book characters whilst enjoying a full day focusing our work on our favourite book. We will begin the day with a whole school assembly to show off our costumes and hear about the theme of the day.
Our Eco Council and OSFA are organising a costume recycling Swap Shop next Tuesday, ahead of World Book Day itself. If you have old costumes that are no longer used, please send them our way to be reused by others. Please don't think that you can only access the Swap Shop if you have a costume to donate. Obviously the success of this will rely on old costumes coming our way, but we would absolutely prefer our families to reuse rather than throwing away and getting new.
A text to indicate whether this is going ahead if we gather enough old costumes, will be sent to parents next Tuesday morning. Thanks for your support.
Sickness Absence
As mentioned in the school newsletter a few weeks ago, can I remind all parents again that when your child is either sick or has diarrhea, a period of 48 hours must pass after the last case of either, before they can return to school. It is imperative that this guidance is followed in order to prevent spreading to other children. Thank you.
Text messages
It has come to our attention that on a number of occasions, parents have not received text messages when we have sent out reminders for the many various things that go on in school. The system we use for sending messages has recently been updated and the transfer from old to new has not been very smooth I'm afraid - something we as the school have no control over. When we know a parent isn't receiving a text however, we can put it right. If you think you haven't received a text that you should have, please get in touch with us and let us know - we will then do our best to correct the glitches in the system.
No Dogs Please!
As much as I love our furry friends, please can I remind all parents that school has a ' no dogs on school grounds' policy. Yesterday, we found dog poo on the playground that could have caused a real problem if brought in to school. Fortunately this was avoided, but it is the foremost reason why this policy is in place. Thank you.
School Council 'Cereal' Challenge!
Our School Council have come up with a fantastic idea; a real challenge for the whole school to take part in and enjoy whilst supporting a great cause; Morecambe Food Bank.
The challenge is a bit of a surprise at the moment so I can't reveal much, however we need to begin collecting full boxes of cereal (this can be any type). These need be be brought into school between 2nd and 19th March - the date of the challenge will be Friday 20th March.
More will be revealed via our Facebook page next week, but please get collecting and sending them our way as soon as you can.
Thanks - from the School Council!
Stars of the Week
A big, shiny well done goes to our Stars of the Week: Evie in Maple Class, Logan in Holly Class, Ben in Elm, Bradley in Willow Class, Emily in Beech Class and Ted in Oak. They were noticed for showing a great attitude to work on their return to school this week, for pushing themselves to go the extra distance and applying their learning brilliantly. Great job!
