Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 19(25/26)

Weekly Round Up

It's been another good week in school - quiet and hard-working with few visitors through the doors. This week, KS2 classes enjoyed a walk up to St Helen's church for morning worship where they learnt about the history of Saint Helen herself and the importance of St Helen's church in our little community. It is always good to visit church and benefit from the reflection and peace it gives us.

We have however enjoyed a visit from Abi Andrews from NISCU this morning, who led some RE sessions with Holly, Elm and Willow Class.

Next week is the last one of the half-term and includes a football league fixture for some of our older children and OSFA's Silent Disco on Thursday (more about that below). We will finish the week with our Values Award's Worship next Friday morning - remember all parents are welcome to join us for Friday morning worships. It is a lovely way to begin the day!

Bugs, Coughs and Colds

Towards the run up to Christmas, the school really suffered with a nasty sickness bug and a flu virus going round, with many children being affected. Unfortunately sickness and diarrhoea seems to be rearing it's head again.

Whilst I always promote good attendance in school, it is vitally important that children remain absent from school for 48hrs after symptoms stop, to ensure the bug is completely gone and unable to be passed to someone else. This may seem frustrating when children bounce back quickly, however please adhere to this guidance to avoid further spread.

Many thanks.

OSFA Silent Disco

Next Thursday, OSFA will be holding the Spring Term Silent Disco, back again by popular demand! Many of you have already secured a place on the list for your child, but please remember to do this before next Thursday so OSFA can know numbers. Leaflets are available in the school's entrance porch.

Discos timings are as follows:

  • Maple, Holly and Elm Class - 5pm - 5.55pm

  • Willow, Beech and Oak - 6pm - 7pm

Please remember to wait on the lower playground when collecting your child from the disco as they will all exit from Maple Classroom.

Magazines Wanted

We are always on the lookout for various types of reading material, in order to encourage all kinds of preferences when practicing reading skills in school.

To that end, we wondered if anyone might have any unwanted magazines at home that are still in good enough condition to donate to school. We are looking for some along the lines of Nature magazines, Sports or Geography related. Of course, they need to be in good readable condition and produced for children. If you have anything like this, we would be grateful.

Thankyou.

Stars of the Week

Well done to Cara from Oak Class, Oliver from Beech Class and Thomas from Willow, Meadow from Elm Class, Harry from Holly Class and Tommy from Maple who are our Stars of the Week. They were all spotted for their different approaches to learning; being able to take advice, having confidence, taking control and being quietly determined.

Well done to you all.

School Lunch Menu

Week beginning Monday 9th Feb, 2026: Dinner week 3

There are some changes to note for next weeks menu. On Monday there will be fish fingers instead of salmon fishcakes and on Tuesday, Miss Griffin will be making pancakes for pudding - we know it's not Pancake Day until the Tuesday of half-term, but we're doing it a bit early, whilst we're all still at school!
