Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 19
Weekly Round Up
It's been lovely to see the school gather back together for the start of the new half-term. This morning in our Friday sharing assembly, we had a small taster of what Elm Class have been working on preparing for their Big Sing festival in just over three weeks time. We also saw some lovely examples of poems written by Holly Class, who have obviously started the term in the right way, putting in some great effort to what they do.
Next week Year 5 have their Bikeability training; by now each pupil should know whether they will be working with our instructors on Monday and Tuesday, or Wednesday and Thursday. Don't forget bikes, helmets and lots of warm layers.
World Book Day - Thursday 6th March
On Thursday, it's WORLD BOOK DAY. This is always a great day in school where we go off topic and spend the whole day working on a theme, inspired by the day itself. Every pupil is welcome to dress up as their chosen book character (this can be as much or as little as you wish); we will begin the day by gathering together in the hall to share everyone's great ideas.
In the afternoon we will be pairing up classes in order to enjoy some time for sharing books. For this, pupils are welcome to bring in their favourite books from home if they wish.
Don't worry - we'll put loads of pictures of the day on our Facebook page.
Dogs on School Premises
Could I remind all parents that dogs should not be brought onto school premises. We had an incident this week where dog dirt was left on the school field after collection time. I am sure you will agree that this is not acceptable and does not help us to maintain a safe, clean environment for our pupils to play in. So please avoid bringing pet dogs with you as you pick up or drop off your children. Thank you.
2025 Challenge!
In January, we presented a challenge to all our pupils and families to set their own personal sponsorship challenge, in order to raise some funds for OSFA. I'm not sure whether many forgot about this challenge, but only two pupils took it up. Bradley Ward in Year 2 walked 20.25 miles gradually building up to the distance bit by bit and Mason Oktem, also in Year 2, took 2025 steps, backwards! A huge well done and thanks to these two boys who both received a certificate and a small thank you gift from OSFA.
Here's the good news. The challenge was originally set to be completed in the month of January but we have decided to keep this going all year. It might be that you have time during the Easter holidays, or you're stuck for something to do one weekend. Whenever you are ready or can find the time, OSFA would be extremely grateful for anything you could do. Sponsor forms are available in the school entrance to pick up.
I'm going to take up this challenge myself and am now thinking of what mine could be - I challenge others to do the same!
