Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 18(25/26)
Weekly Round Up
I'm pleased to say that January is nearly behind us and with it hopefully, the cold, dark, windy weather! There are a few small signs of new life around the grounds - this week I noticed some of the spring bulbs we planted last Autumn in our outside worship area beginning to push through, which should look great next month, adding some welcomed colour.
Despite the season, we continue to push on at school, working hard in all classes in our learning. It was great to share a range of work; History, Computing, Science and Art in our worship this morning. On Monday, a sizeable group of KS2 pupils represented our school at the indoor athletics competition - we placed fifth overall but it was a great effort. After that, some of our older pupils then went on to play in a football league competition, again, putting in a great effort to be well placed for the next fixture in a couple of weeks. We look forward to hearing how it goes.
This week we also welcomed Katie and her friend Harold the Giraffe who visited each class over two days to lead some Life Education workshops. These always tackle some really important issues which can really challenge our pupils' thinking; the areas they cover are hugely beneficial to the personal development of our children.
New Fence!
I am pleased that our new fence at the front of the school is now complete - I hope you all like it. I am impressed with how smart it looks and how the team continued to put it up whilst Storm Chandra did it's best to put them off!
I've already been given some very positive feedback by some our our parents. I think we can all agree it is a welcome addition to the school that looks very smart and gives an added element of security to the grounds.
Magazines Wanted
We are always on the lookout for various types of reading material, in order to encourage all kinds of preferences when practicing reading skills in school.
To that end, we wondered if anyone might have any unwanted magazines at home that are still in good enough condition to donate to school. We are looking for some along the lines of Nature magazines, Sports or Geography related. Of course, they need to be in good readable condition and produced for children. If you have anything like this, we would be grateful.
Thankyou.
Polite Parking Reminder
We have noticed again, a number of cars parking on the yellow lines leading to school, or in the bus layby outside school, when picking up at the end of the day. Please please do not do this and abide by proper parking rules. These are there for the safety of our pupils; your children, who need good visibility in order to cross Lancaster Rd safely.
Thank you.
Stars of the Week
Well done to Connie H in Maple Class, Cora-Rose in Holly Class, Joshua in Elm, Henry in Willow Class, Elouisa in Beech Class and Bertie in Oak who were our Stars of the Week for showing perseverance, focus and effort towards their work, making great contributions in their lessons.
Due to the absence of a newsletter last week, we need to give last week's Stars of the Week a mention too. So, well done to Ari in Maple Class, Hallie in Holly Class, Lily B in Elm, Marcie in Willow Class, Leo H in Beech Class and Emma in Oak who were equally amazing last week!
