Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 18

Weekly Round Up

As we reach the end of another busy half-term in school it's good to look back and reflect on all the fab things that have happened since January. It's been a busy sporting half-term with teams playing in football, tag rugby, athletics and handball competitions, showing plenty of effort and determination. Our Year 6 completed their Bikeability training and we had Katy from Coram Life education in to lead sessions in all classes. Abi from NISCU has visited school working with our younger classes in their RE lessons and Maple Class managed to leave their classroom behind for a day on their visit to Blackpool Zoo!

More importantly, whilst all that has been going on, our pupils have worked really hard this term progressing with reading, writing, maths and all the other subjects we cover. Make sure you all have some good books lined up to enjoy over the half-term and enjoy the well deserved break!

Half-term Activities

If you are stuck for things to do over the half-term break, here are a few suggestions. You may wish to check out The Duke's Theatre as there are some upcoming great dramatisations of some brilliant stories for young children. Heysham Nature Reserve will no doubt have some fab activities planned so check out their website for when those will be happening.

Just after half-term, there is a performance of Annie the Musical at Lancaster Grand (organised by Morecambe Amateur Dramatics Society) featuring two of our very own parents! I am sure it will be lots of fun and something to be enjoyed by all the family.

And of course, next weekend is the Bay Light Festival which is always worth a walk down the prom after dark. I am particularly looking forward to seeing the old Galleon, lit up and floating silently across the water - it promises to be an amazing sight!

Well done!

Well done to all our pupils who represented our school this week in two sporting events. The whole of Oak Class took part in an inter-school Tag Rugby tournament led by Wigan Warriors and persevered well, working great in their teams. A huge well-done also goes to our Year 4 Handball team, who participated in a relatively new sporting competition, against other schools. They worked amazingly well together, showing an abundance of perseverance and determination to get the hang of the game. Well done all!

World Book Day

On Thursday 6th March (second week back!) it will be World Book Day! This is always a fab day in school where we devote the whole day to the wonderful world of books. It's a 'dress up day' so every pupil is welcome to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. This can be a big and bold complete costume if that's your preference, or simply a prop or hat that gives a nod to the character it portrays. The priority is for all to have an enjoyable day where books can be the stars of the show.
