Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 17
Weekly Round Up
Another busy week in school this week, with only one more week to go before half-term! This week we have had two groups of pupils out representing our school at sporting events, with more trying out for upcoming competitions. I am pleased to also tell you that our choir and Elm Class are working hard preparing for the Lancaster and Morecambe Singing Festival; 'The Big Sing', happening in March. More details will come after half-term regarding tickets and timings.
Next week we look forward to our OSFA Silent Disco. It was great fun last year and a real unique experience, so please get your tickets booked. Also, Maple Class are excited about their school trip to Blackpool Zoo - I believe they are particularly excited about seeing the penguins!
Welcome to Worship!
This week, we were extremely pleased to welcome Rev Sarah Cliffe and Mags in to school to lead our Key Stage Worships. Rev Sarah is vicar at St John's Sandylands and Mags is a Lay Preacher. Both ladies are going to be regular visitors to our school during St Helen's Church vacancy and we feel extremely fortunate to have them. We continue to visit our village church, once a half-term if the weather is kind to us, for our Tuesday and Thursday worship - it is lovely to know that St Helen's Church is there for the school to use when we need it.
Building Work
I am pleased to let you know that over half-term we will be completing some upgrades to the school building. We will be finally installing a new school boiler due to the age and efficiency of our current one. We are also having a lighting upgrade, moving to LED lighting throughout school. This has been a much needed improvement and will make a big difference, not only to our classroom environments but the efficiency of our building.
The majority of the work will not effect school business at all, however there may be just a couple of outside areas to avoid upon our return after the half-term break. If there are any differences to the normal routine of picking up or dropping off, we will let you know via our text system.
Sporting Efforts.
Well done and thanks to those pupils who represented our school on Thursday evening at two sporting events in the local area. A fab team of Y3 and Y4 pupils put in a great performance at the athletics league meet finishing in second place. Meanwhile over at Bay Leadership Academy, 8 Y6s showed resilience and perseverance in a Tag Rugby tournament, playing against some tough competition in cold weather. They brought home some bumps and scrapes however I am proud of the determination and attitude they showed. Well done!
New Website Format
I hope you are all enjoying the new website and getting used to the newsletter format. Whilst our website is still new, we would appreciate any parent feedback. If you like something, think something could be clearer, or even spot a mistake, please let us know. We want our website to be useful for our school community, so please let us know if it could be better.
