Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 16(25/26)
Weekly Round Up
Welcome back and Happy New Year!
It's been fab to see all our pupils return after the Christmas break for the start of the new school term. Despite the bleary eyes and shell-shocked expressions of Monday morning, everyone has got straight back in to the pace of learning and the week has been a good one. New books are beginning, new topics are started and the Star of the Week certificates this morning reflected the positive start everyone has made.
We all enjoyed Tuesday morning when we had some amazing visitors in the form of Capser the Barn Owl, Roland the Harris Hawk, Spud the Pygmy Owl and Ranger the Eagle Owl. They flew around our school hall as we learnt about these fascinating creatures. Catch the photos on our Facebook page.
Afterschool clubs will begin next week in school. We have had to make the difficult decision to transfer some of the cost of external coach-led clubs to parents from the start of this term, due to the fact that we are entering a period of limited finances for the school. Please know however that the school is continuing to heavily subsidise these clubs for parents. Many thanks to those who have sent in payment, which now must be made to guarantee a place for your child.
Staff update
This week we have welcomed back Miss Pickup into the Overton fold once again. Miss Pickup is with us due to Mrs Knowles' absence from Beech Class. Over the Christmas holidays, Mrs Knowles had a serious accident and broke her leg badly. Consequently, she is currently recovering with a long and patient road ahead of her. I am sure you will join me in extending our love and prayers for a speedy and safe recovery. We are thinking of you Mrs Knowles!
We also welcome Mrs Linda Conroy to the school family who begins as our new Site Supervisor. We wish her loads of luck in her new role in school and already feel blessed to have her with us.
School Nurse Drop In Sessions
The School Nurses team have managed to organise a monthly drop in session for any parents who wish to contact them. This could be for many various reasons, from advice about diet or sleep, to issues around toileting or behaviour. They will be held on the first Wednesday of each month during term time, at Morecambe Library.
Remember, the school nurse can always be reached through a referral from school. If parents need this for any reason, please talk to class teachers or Mrs Easthope about any worry or concern you may have. Alternatively, pop down to a drop in session.
Save the Date!
I am happy to say that the Year 5 trip to London and the Houses of Parliament has now been secured and letters will be going to out Year 5 parents shortly with all the details.
The trip will be taking place on Tuesday 24th March so please put the date on your calendars.
Star of the Week
A big well done to Kira from Maple Class, Harmonie from Holly Class, Sienna from Elm Class, Darcey from Willow, Rocco from Beech and Frankie from Oak Class, who were our Stars of the Week this morning and who also get the kudos of being the very first 'Stars' of 2026! All were spotted making a consistent, positive and hard working start to the school term - well done!
