Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 14
Weekly Round Up
Here we are at the end of the week again! Our second advent candle has been burning all week, reminding us of time inching ever closer to Christmas.
This week was a week of Christmas offerings to our parent community, with the Nativity performed brilliantly by Maple and Holly Class and the amazing Carol Service, sung equally brilliantly by Elm and Willow Class. There really has been so much hard work put in beforehand to get both offerings ready, so well done all. And, thank you so much for giving generously to the retiring collection for St John's Hospice. So far, we have raised £230!
As if all that wasn't enough, we've ended the week with Christmas Dodgeball sessions and a KS1 multi-skills event! Next week will be busy with the normal routine different to what is usual. Please look at the dates section carefully and remember that when it is the day of your child's Christmas Party, they can come to school in party gear.
Elf Run
Next week, at some point, we will be completing our Elf Run for St John's Hospice. In previous years we have completed this around the edge of our school grounds, however due to the fact that they are so sodden from all the rain over the last month (and that we will basically turn them into mud if all 175 of us walk continually around them), we have decided to change our plans.
We are going to go on an 'Elf Walk' around the village, hopefully spreading Christmas cheer to our wider community. We plan to do this on Tuesday afternoon as this looks like the driest day next week, however plans may have to change last minute if the weather works against us. We will put notice on our Facebook page to let you know when we will be out, so that any local residents can give us a wave as we pass.
If your child is in party gear on the day of the walk, then a change of shoes may be advisable so that party shoes are protected.
Our Elf Walk will be our final event in aid of St John's Hospice - please bring in at least £1 donation in to school on the day for this amazing organisation within our community. If you wish to donate more, then we will be very grateful indeed. Thank you in advance.
Final Celebration Worship
Next week, we will be having our final celebration worship of the term on Thursday morning, instead of the usual Friday morning. During this, we will be awarding our Values Awards for our Christian Value this half-term; 'Peace'. Parents are most welcome to join us from 8.45am.
On Friday we will ALL be going up to St Helen's church for a final Carol Service with readings from our Worship Council. Unfortunately we cannot extend a welcome to parents for this service, due to the fact that we can't fit you in Church!
Breakfast Club
A quick reminder to all parents who use our Breakfast Club each morning, to please ensure the place for your child is booked by 4pm the evening before. Whilst we appreciate sometimes plans change at the last minute and we would always want to give you the breakfast club option should you need it, we are now getting busier on somedays and knowing numbers beforehand is a requirement for us.
Many thanks.
Festive Fun Run
On 27th September, Salt Ayre are hosting a Festive Fun Run for all the family, apparently with lots of festive spot prizes and medals on offer. This sounds like a super event but places go early, so if you fancy it, you need to book quickly using the detail shown here. It could be a great way to burn off the turkey and Christmas chocs!
Stars of the Week
Well done to Ivy in Maple Class, Cora-Rose in Holly Class, Lily-Rae in Beech Class and Garth in Oak Class who were our Stars of the Week for continuing to work hard amidst the hustle and bustle of the week and showing great resilience against persistent bugs and colds, to carry on regardless. Star of the Week awards for Elm and Willow went to the whole of each class, for putting on such a brilliant carol service - Mr Wood and Mrs Harding were very proud of them all.
