Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 13

Weekly Round Up

We began our week on Monday by lighting the first candle on our Advent Wreath and talking about remaining patient, calm and focused amongst the growing excitement and busyness of the season. All our pupils have done really well with this and the Star of the Week awards reflected how hard pupils have continued to work in class.

On Tuesday, we were delighted with a pop-up performance from Willow Class pupils who showed us the skills they have developed with their ukuleles. Thanks to Beth and all the class who ended the day in such a wonderful way.

On Wednesday and Thursday, our Year 3 and Year 4 pupils completed their Bikeability training. We had some real stand-out moments when some of our pupils began to ride bikes with ease and confidence. I was incredibly proud of the determination and courage they all showed.

Visit to Morecambe Food Bank

On Wednesday, Mrs Ingham and I took the House Captains to visit Morecambe Foodbank, to find out more about how they help people in our community. It was a very interesting and eye-opening visit. We heard about how much need there really is in our community and how much of our help the Foodbank requires. We got a tour of the building and then helped out by sorting some food donations that had come in that day.

The foodbank supply food , cleaning products and everyday household goods to many families in the area, as well as offering them help and support in order to become more self-sufficient. The donations they receive each year fall short of the demand and they typically spend an extra £50,00 per year on buying the products they don't have. They are always very grateful for donations of food and funds and said many times how much they appreciated our collection at Harvest.

We are now determined to do more and in next week's joint School and Worship Council meeting, the pupils will be deciding on how we do this. In the meantime, if you are inspired to make a donation to the foodbank you can do it via the school. Simply leave any items in the green crate in our entrance porch and we will make sure it gets to them. Thank you.

A Big Christmassy Thank you!

From all the pupils at Overton St Helen's, a huge big THANK YOU goes first of all to our fabulous, amazing, wonderful OSFA team who have worked so hard over the last few weeks to get a brilliant Christmas Fair ready for today. And what a fabulous fair it was!

However, a second big THANK YOU from us all, goes to all our amazing parents who donated loads of stuff for the stall and prizes. I am sure today we have managed to make a substantial amount for OSFA funds, however the running total will be announced when we have it.

Thank you everyone for your support !

Carols and Nativities

Next week, our youngest pupils will be performing their Nativity Play for parents on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon from 1.30pm. We still have plenty of tickets left for these performances, so please come and help yourself to more for all the family to enjoy. Get in quick though, because when they are gone, they're gone!

On Wednesday evening Elm and Willow Class will be holding their annual Carol Service at 6pm, offering songs, carols and readings. There is no need to get tickets for this event but parents should arrive at around 5.45pm on the lower playground - we will be letting you all in via the side corridor. There will be mulled wine and mice pies to welcome you on arrival.

At all our performances next week, we will be having a retiring collection for St John's Hospice.

Easy Fundraising

Just a quick reminder if you haven't already, to download the Easy Fundraising app and register OSFA as your chosen charity to support. This is how much it has generated for us so far, so please take a quick five minutes to do so. It really is money for nothing!
