Beech Class Curriculum Letter Autumn Term
Welcome Back!
I hope you had a lovely summer holiday filled with adventure and fun. For those who have been in Beech previously, hello again and for those who are new, welcome!
We have a busy Autumn Term in Beech class where we challenge ourselves in all the expectations of Year 4 and Year 5 and I know that the children will meet the challenge head on.
At the core of my philosophy as a teacher is that all the children have the right to learn in a calm and compassionate environment and that is built on respect, manners and understanding of need. If we have high expectations of the children they will have high expectations of themselves.
It is crucial that children have the right school uniform, stud earrings and their hair tied back. If you are struggling with any aspect of this please let me know and I will see if I can help. Small things can really make a difference for the children’s behaviour for Learning.
Curriculum
Maths
This year we are focusing on cementing the core basics of Maths; Arithmetic, Presentation, Times tables and self-challenge. We use the White Rose Scheme of work and we supplement that with other activities. Times Tables are Key and the children will be encouraged to practise them at home and at school.
English
This is a fantastic subject that will focus on the book Calling the Whales. We will look at information text, reports and poetry. Spellings will also be sent home this half term and over the next few weeks we will look at assessing the children’s needs.
PE
In Beech Class this half term we will have PE with Miss Hall on Thursday and Swimming on a Friday afternoon. On Thursday the children will need to wear school PE kit with either shorts or tracksuit bottoms as well as trainers or pumps. On Friday the children will need to have their school uniform on but will need Swimming kit to get changed into as well as a separate bag for a towel and a wet costume. Children will be allowed goggles with a note.
Forest School – will be every two weeks and at the moment we are looking at a Thursday afternoon (TBC) a text will go out the night before to let you know what is needed (normally a change of shoes and trousers).
RE
This term we are learning about The Bible and its importance to Christians. We will have a visit from Abi (from NISCU) and we will also look at Sacred Texts and celebrations.

Homework

Thank you for your help in ensuring the progression of the children. If you need any additional support, help or advice please email me on beech@overton-st-helens.lancs.sch.uk or get in touch with Mrs Barry in the office to arrange a meeting.
