Beech Autumn 2024 Class Newsletter
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back to School! First of all, let me start by saying I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break. It has been a couple of weeks since we started back and the children have entered Beech Class in a very positive way which has been brilliant to see. We have a busy Autumn term ahead of us and we have lots of fantastic topics to take part in and events to experience.
In Beech Class we will work closely with both Willow Class and Oak Class to reflect a progressive and balanced curriculum which will help the children no matter what their Year Group and ensure that children from the same year groups have multiple chances to work together with the age peers.
Curriculum
As always, the curriculum in Beech Class is varied and busy. We are looking at two texts this term in English (Through the Forest and The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe) in addition to a range of poetry.
In Maths we will be focusing on Place Value, Multiplication, arithmetic and fractions to build on the foundations of previous learning.
Our PE days this year will be Monday and Thursday and we are looking at key athletic and gym skills. We will also look to visit forest schools as much as possible and those visits will take place on alternate Thursdays and will be preceded by a text message the previous day.
In our wider curriculum we are study a range of subjects which will expand the children’s knowledge of the wider world.
Science – Living things and their habitats and forces
History – The Viking Settlement and raids.
Geography – World Geography and A mountain case study (Everest)
Art – typography and map making
Design Technology – Textiles and Sewing
French – Salut and greetings
Music – Mamma Mia and listening and appraising music.
Religion – Jesus the Son of God and Judaism and the Sabbath
PSHE – Skills and interests and Respect and how we treat people
As you can see a brilliant selection of topics!
Homework
This year in Beech we will be adapting our homework. As always it would be fantastic if you can hear your children read as often as possible. Spellings will be checked on every Friday and the children will be reminded of their weekly spellings every Monday. We will be sending home a red homework book (Every Thursday) which will give the children the chance to practise tasks which will help build on their times tables, spelling and wider mathematical knowledge. These will be asked to be brought in by the following Wednesday after the task is set. If there are any problems with any particular tasks feel free to write a note by the task.
Thank you once again for all your help. Communication and teamwork are the keys to success, and if you ever need to talk I am available at the door before and after school every day or via an appointment through the office or an email – beech@overton-st-helens.lancs.sch.uk
Let’s have a wonderful and inspiring Autumn term!
Yours Sincerely,
Mr Saban.
